The really nice people at APQ have published one of my sewing projects. It's an appliqué and quilted pillow featuring a vintage style sewing machine. This was really fun to design and stitch up and I hope you'll want to try it. You can see my project, as well as other featured projects from this issue here.

To celebrate this first for me I'm going to give this pillow away! Just leave me a comment here and on Friday the 4th I'll draw a winning name. Good luck!!

A Punctuation Situation!

Hello everyone! Welcome to my blog and my first ever Moda blog hop!

Moda has created some really cute alphabet block patterns for you to download and use for all kinds of fun projects. As you visit each blog there will be links to the downloads. Here is the schedule, if you are just now catching up. And don't forget to leave comments at each stop for a chance to win some pretty great prizes!

If you've been following along for the last two weeks you know that the artists are supposed to use their assigned letter to tell you a little bit about themselves so here's a short list of some of my favorite things:

Peonies...I am SO ready for warm weather and these lush flowers that grow all around our house!
United Notions! Such great people to work with!
Netflix…Listening to movies while I work keeps me off of Facebook!
Color! Of course!
Travel. Spain is on my bucket list…mostly because of Gaudi.
Uppercase Magazine. It's so nicely done & not just for graphic designers!
Art books! I can never have too many.
Tiny dogs…they're the best…just ask my little Boo!
Inspiration. The best kind comes when you aren't looking for it.
On-line shopping…because I never leave the house!
Nice people. And I've met LOTS of them in the fabric & quilting world!

This blog hop has probably given you some great ideas for things you can make with these letters, but if you're like me, you might have noticed a few things missing. When Lissa sent me the patterns and told me to pick the letter I wanted to make I wondered "where's the punctuation?… & THE NUMBERS?!" The graphic designer in me thinks all good fonts need these things so I asked if I could design them. After all, not much is posted these days without a couple of hashtags & an emoticon. I'm also no stranger to overusing the ampersand or the exclamation point!!!!!

Get the patterns here:               PUNCTUATION                      NUMBERS

You can read Lissa's post about how she's using the numbers in designing a baby quilt. I chose to use the letters as well as the symbols in a small pillow project for my studio. It's made up in my Sewing Box collection.

Here's the front. See the smiley face emoticon? I like to display this side when all is going well and my sewing machine is behaving. And, of course, I couldn't decide which fabrics to use so I used them ALL!

And the back? I save it for the seam ripper days and a little cartoon cursing.

I found the perfect 14 x 28 pillow form at the craft store. I ended up reducing the patterns by 50% so they would fit.

As I was piecing all these letters together I couldn't help but brainstorm some other projects you could do with them. How about a family HAPPY B-DAY! banner?

Or maybe a table runner with #DINNERTIME on it? Or #EAT! placemats?

These would be so fun made up in your favorite prints or Bella Solids!

So now that you've visited all the blogs & have all the patterns I hope you'll be sure to share what you make with us by using #SPELLITWITHMODA on your favorite social media sites.

Moda has very generously given me a fat quarter bundle and a layer cake roll of Sewing Box to give away. I'm also giving away this little Doxie Dog I made! To enter, leave a comment TODAYthat also includes your favorite EMOTICON because TOMORROW afternoon I'll randomly pick the winners. Only one entry per person, please. Good luck and thanks for stopping by!

P.S. Be sure to also visit the other blogs featured today: Barbara Brackman & Zen Chic! These ladies are awesome!

Hello & Happy Friday!

The weather this weekend looks to be moving in a warmer direction! Woo hoo! I plan to spend it having a ladies weekend with my mom and some other wonderful women in my life. It'll be so nice to get away from my desk and have some great meals out, look at some wonderful art and maybe antique shop a little. In any case I know I'll be laughing a lot!

Before I hit the road I have some business to take care of here, don't I?! I want to thank everyone who took the time to visit my blog and leave a comment for a chance to win a scrap bag of fabric. I'm so enjoying this new chapter in my design life and meeting and talking to wonderful quilters and crafters like you all has been the best part!

For the giveaway drawing I've made 2 lists according to which fabric collection you are interested in & if you liked both you went on both lists.
I used a random list generator to choose the winners and they are:

Wrens & Friends

Caren - "I like BOTH of them a lot! Maybe Wrens & Friends because it would be better for a wider gift-recipient list (I'd love to make some little wristlet/purses)!"

Nortiness - "I love the idea of scrap quilts! Unfortunately I don't have near enough scraps yet or even in enough colors to make anything :( this would be perfect! :)"

Sewing Box

Charlottle L - "Wow! I LOVE scraps! Id love either but I guess Sewing box would be first. Thanks for the chance."

Cheryl - "I would love to win this for our quilt ministry!! We are a new ministry started in July 2013. We have thrived on donated scraps giving away 19 completed quilts to date."

So if you are a winner please contact me on Facebook or through email to give me your address and a very heavy box will be coming to you next week! I hope you'll be sure to share photos of any projects you end up making with these scraps. I would love to see them! Thank you!
